Visitor’s ethical protocols

Below are the guidelines and protocols that each visitor must follow upon arrival and stay in the Monteverde Reserve.

General:

  • Each visitor’s temperature will be taken before entering the facilities.
  • Everyone must go to the hand washing area, following the protocol.
  • Only one person of the social bubble will be able to queue to acquire services.
  • People who do not wait in line, must stay in open areas outside reception, such as the small square.
  • Gel alcohol disinfection stations were placed in all areas for each visitor use.
  • If using public bathrooms’ services, store and reservation office, the carrying capacity of each area must be respected.
  • The wristband should be put on and taken off by each visitor, and properly disposed of in the assigned container.
  • Follow the sneeze and cough protocol.
  • Throughout the whole visit, maintain social distance.
  • Properly use trash containers.
  • Follow the instructions indicated by the Biological Monteverde Reserve Staff.
  • It is recommended to make the reservation and the payment online.
  • In case of making the payment directly at reception, it is recommended to do it by debit or credit card.

Trails:

  • Do not feed the animals.
  • Always stay on the trails.
  • Do not use sound emitting devices, laser point or drones.
  • Do not take pictures with flash.
  • Is prohibited collecting samples of flora and fauna.
  • Avoid loud noises while staying in the forest.
  • Is prohibited smoking on the trails or inside the facilities.
  • Do not throw trash on the trails.
  • Report any suspicious activity by staff or other visitors.
  • Is prohibited to consume alcoholic beverages.
  • Maintain a distance of 25 meters between groups.
  • Maintain a prudential distance between the same group.

Lodge:

  • Do not feed the animals.
  • Do not use sound emitting devices, laser point or drones.
  • Do not take pictures with flash.
  • No running in the hostel.
  • No throwing objects.
  • Is prohibited collecting samples of flora and fauna.
  • Avoid loud noises while staying in the hostel.
  • No smoking inside the facilities.
  • Use the garbage cans according to their categorization.
  • Report any suspicious activity by staff or other visitors.
  • Is prohibited to consume alcoholic beverages.
  • Use biodegradable products during the visit: shampoo, repellent and soap.
  • Make the reservation with 50% of the total value, to make the block effective.

 

Restaurant:

  • Carry out hand washing before admission.
  • Respect the load and distribution capacity.
  • Maintain social distancing.
  • Follow the sneeze and cough protocol.
  • It is recommended to make the payment by credit or debit card.

Policies for tours and tickets:

  1. It is necessary to make a reservation in advance for any of the guided tours.
  2. The minimum for all tours is 2 adults.
  3. Entry reservations are made only through the website.
  4. The hours in which the Natural History Tour is offered are: 7:30 am, 11:30 am and 1:30 pm, with an approximate duration of 2 and a half hours.
  5. The tours of the Natural History Walk outside the established hours can be coordinated in advance, for which a minimum of 9 adults is required.
  6. The special walking tour for bird watching is offered in a single schedule at 6:00 am with an approximate duration of 6 hours, including breakfast at the Raíces Restaurant.
  7. The guided Night Walk is offered every night at 6:00 pm, with an approximate duration of 2 hours.

Policies of La Casona Lodge:

  1. The guests of Albergue la Casona, includes the entrance to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Preserve.
  2. The environmental education classroom will be provided to those groups of students who require it, free of charge, given they request it in advance of the visit.
  3. The discount for student groups will only be applied to groups of more than 12 people.
  4. The discount for groups of students will be made as long as it is proven that the group is a student, by means of a note from the respective University or College.
  5. La Casona packages are sold complete, they are not divided, nor are discounts made for services not taken.

 Policies for the Night tour for children:

  1. A family with only one child under 9 years old does not pay for the tour.
  2. A family with two children between 6 and 9 years old pays the value of a guided tour for both of them.
  3. Children over 10 years old pay the full tour.
  4. All children between 3 and 10 years old who use the transportation service will have to pay for the service the sum of $ 6 for each one (transportation from the hotel to the reservation and vice versa).
